The Papadopoulos Award for Outstanding Caring Acts by Young People
This yearly award has been established and is funded by Professor Rena Papadopoulos, the co-founder of the Greek and Greek Cypriot Community of Enfield, and its Chairperson between the years of 1994 - 2001.

Aim
The award aims to acknowledge unpaid caring acts by young people within the Greek speaking community.

What are 'caring acts?'
Although we do not wish to be prescriptive, ‘caring acts’ cover a range of activities such as:

  • regularly visiting an old housebound person
  • caring for a sick relative
  • supporting a friend in need
  • helping a person to learn a new skill or overcome learning difficulties
  • participating in the work of community groups or organisations, raising funds for charities and so on.
It is up to you to tell us why the person you are nominating has committed a 'caring act'.

How can one nominate?
  • A young person with one or two Greek/Greek Cypriot parents aged between 11 and 30 years, living in the UK, can be nominated.
  • A young person can be nominated for this award by a person or group or organisation, by either completing a simple form which can be obtained from the GGCCE by telephone or sending us a letter, stating who they wish to nominate and why.
  • The recipient of the 'caring act' does not have to be Greek/Greek Cypriot.
  • Any young person living in the UK is eligible.
When can one apply?
Applications can be made any time during the year. However, since this is a yearly award, the decisions will be made in December.

What is the award?
The award comprises of a prize of £100.00 and a certificate of merit. A panel will meet each year to consider each application. Should there be more than one outstanding application the prize money will be divided in two. All finalists will receive a certificate of merit.
